Vegarredonda

The shelter of Vegarredonda is located at the Majada of the same name in the western massif, also named massif of Covadonga, inside the Picos de Europa N. P at an altitude of 1460 m approximately.

The building dates back to 1987, although previously there was a little shelter placed a bit higher that was used as a munitions warehouse during the Spanish Civil War.

The shelter has two dinning rooms and three bedrooms and provides a wide range of typically asturian meals besides the bar service.

The portering of goods for the refuge is done by horses in summer and backpack in winter.

Vegarredonda is a great place to enjoy with your family the natural paradise of Asturias because it is easly accessible on a nice route.

It can be also a good starting point for many walks, mountain ascents and climbings.

The shelter is a "must" for mountaineers who are doing the "vindio ring" when they come from Vegabaño, as they find here the necessary rest after 8-10hours walk.

Also those coming from Vega de Ario can have at Vegarredonda the perfect place to rest if they want to visit the famous "Mirador de Ordiales" where the foundator of the National Park of Picos de Europa, the marqués of Villaviciosa, asked to have his eternal rest Sorrounded by the unbelievable beauty of this place.
